Medical weight management at Insight Family Health, Sunnyvale
Medical weight management is a physician-guided approach to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight using evidence-based tools—not quick fixes.
At its core, it starts with understanding your unique biology, medical history, metabolism, and lifestyle. From there, a personalized plan is developed that may include targeted nutrition strategies, physical activity guidance, behavioral support, and—when appropriate—medications to help regulate appetite, metabolism, and weight-related hormones.
The goal is not just weight loss, but meaningful, sustainable improvement in overall health. A structured medical program focuses on reducing health risks, improving energy and function, and helping you build habits that last. Progress is monitored over time, adjustments are made based on real data, and care is coordinated with your broader health needs—so your plan evolves with you rather than working against you.
Weight management impacts all aspects and cycles of health care.
Lifestyle:
Regular medical check-ups and monitoring of chronic conditions.
Body Measurements: Recording weight, height, BMI (Body Mass Index), and body composition analysis.
Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on healthy eating habits, portion control, and balanced diets. Education about food choices and meal planning to support weight loss and maintenance.
Screenings: Possible lab tests to check metabolic health and monitor any medical conditions.
Medically supervised weight loss programs offer state of the art and highly effective treatments for weight loss to achieve overall health and wellness goals.
Typical treatment may involve diet and exercise regimens, healthy eating guidance and weekly or semi-weekly injections.

Branded Weight Loss Products: can be prescribed by our doctors. Insurance may require additional health conditions or weight loss programs prior to approval. Outside of insurance, the cost used to be prohibitive. However, the pricing and availability are continually improving, and its now possible for most patients to afford self pay programs and access the tremendous health benefits of the medication that go way beyond just weight loss.
Commonly Prescribed Medications:
By Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical: Active Agent: Semaglutide
Products:
Ozempic: For diabetes
Wegovy: For weight loss
By Eli Lilly and Company: Active Agent: Tirzepatide
Products:
Mounjaro: For diabetes
Zepbound: For weight loss
Compounded Weight Loss Products: Are chemically identical but are made by compounding pharmacies under special FDA approval. In some cases compound Semaglutide or Tirzepatide can be prescribed or supplied by a doctor at very reasonable prices.
At our practice, patient safety and treatment reliability come first. For that reason, we do not currently prescribe compounded GLP-1 weight loss medications.
Compounded versions are not reviewed or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and their safety, consistency, and quality can vary depending on the source and preparation process. There are also evolving regulatory and legal considerations surrounding these products.
Instead, we prescribe only FDA-approved, brand-name GLP-1 medications. These therapies are manufactured under strict quality standards, have well-established dosing and safety data, and provide a level of consistency that is essential for safe and effective care.
