Medical Weight Management- Insight Family Health, Sunnyvale
Medical weight management is a physician-guided approach to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight using evidence-based tools—not quick fixes. At its core, it starts with understanding your unique biology, medical history, metabolism, and lifestyle. From there, a personalized plan is developed that may include targeted nutrition strategies, physical activity guidance, behavioral support, and—when appropriate—medications to help regulate appetite, metabolism, and weight-related hormones.
The goal is not just weight loss, but meaningful, sustainable improvement in overall health. A structured medical program focuses on reducing health risks, improving energy and function, and helping you build habits that last. Progress is monitored over time, adjustments are made based on real data, and care is coordinated with your broader health needs—so your plan evolves with you rather than working against you.
Weight management impacts all aspects of health care.

Branded Weight Loss Products: can be prescribed by our doctors. Insurance may require additional conditions or programs prior to approval. Outside of insurance, the cost used to be prohibitive. However, pricing and availability are improving. It is now possible for most patients to afford self pay programs and access the tremendous health benefits of the medication that go way beyond just weight loss. Commonly Prescribed Medications include:
>Weekly Injectables:
1. Novo Nordisk-(Single Agonists*)
2. Eli Lilly-(Dual Agonists*)
>New Daily Pill Forms:
Eli Lilly- Foundayo (Orforglipron): weight Loss
Novo Nordisk: Wegovy (Pill): weight, Rybelsus-diabetes
>Coming in Late 2026/2027 and very promising:
Eli Lilly (Triple Agonist*): Retatrutide
Reduces muscle loss, increases fat loss
Roughly speaking weight loss:
semaglutide: 15% , tirzepatide: 20–22%, retatrutide: 25–30%+
*An agonist is something that activates a receptor in the body and causes a biological effect. The more agonists, the more effective.
Compounded Weight Loss Products: Are chemically identical but made by compounding pharmacies under special FDA approvals. Compound Semaglutide or Tirzepatide can be prescribed by a doctor at very reasonable prices. However, Compounded versions are not reviewed or approved by the U.S. FDA and their safety, consistency, and quality can vary depending on the source and preparation process. There are also evolving regulatory and legal considerations surrounding these products.
At Insight Family Health, patient safety and treatment reliability come first. For that reason, we do not prescribe compounded medications. Instead, we prescribe only FDA-approved, brand-name GLP medications. These therapies are manufactured under strict quality standards, have well-established dosing and safety data, and provide a level of consistency that is essential for safe and effective care.
At our practice we have noticed dramatic secondary changes, in addition to weight loss, to the health of patients on GLP medications including lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, decreased interest in smoking and alcohol consumption, and higher energy levels. These are only casual observations and not medically validated by us.
However there is a large body of medical literature and scientific articles published which discuss the possible mechanisms for these types of impacts which have been widely reported. We will supply some links to these articles in a future update to our website.
